How can we help?

Installing multiple versions of Serato Studio

From time to time you may want to install multiple versions of Serato Studio, allowing you to bounce between several versions at your convenience.

By default, a new Serato Studio version will install over the previously installed version, but with a few minor tweaks, you can keep the old version, as well get the newer one.

IMPORANT: It is not advisable to run more than one version of Serato Studio at the same time. Doing so could cause problems with your Serato library database. Close down each instance of Serato Studio before launching the older or new version.
Additionally, from time-to-time, some Serato Studio versions may introduce content that is incompatible with an older version, or in rarer circumstances, may also affect a project rendering it incompatible with an older version.

Read on to find out how:

on Windows

Before installing a newer version of Serato Studio, find the existing program folder on your computer and rename it. Renaming it after the version number is a useful way of identifying each version - especially if you plan on installing multiple versions. For example; if you currently have Serato Studio 1.7.2 installed, rename the folder to Serato Studio 1.7.2.

Now, when you install the new version, the old folder will not be deleted, and you can choose which you want to run by going into that folder and double clicking on the executable. You could also create shortcuts on your desktop for each version if you wanted to.

Before you install a new version of Serato Studio on Windows:

  1. Ensure all Serato applications are shut down correctly and are not currently running
  2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Serato
  3. Locate the Serato Studio sub-folder
  4. Right-click on the sub-folder and re-name it (we suggest using the a title that corresponds to that installation's version), such as Serato Studio 1.7.2
  5. Now open the newly titled Serato Studio 1.7.2 sub-folder, and locate the Serato Studio.exe file inside
  6. Right-click on the .exe file and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  7. Navigate to your desktop, and find the most recent Serato Studio.exe - Shortcut icon, then right-click on it, and re-name the shortcut. Again, choose whatever title you want, but we suggest something that corresponds to the version itself, like "Serato Studio - 1.7.2"
NOTE: On Windows, you will need to uninstall the current version if you wish to revert to an older version of Serato Studio, however you can still use the method above to install multiple, newer versions of Serato Studio.

Finally, you can now install the newer version of Serato Studio, without losing access to the older version you installed above. Feel free to repeat the steps again with the latest version, so you're ready to install the next version when it becomes available.

You can drag any number of these applications to your dock for quick launching. (The dock will not automatically update with a new installation).
