Serato DJ Pro version 2.4 and above gives you the option to output audio directly via your laptop's speakers or connected audio interface while your primary Hardware is connected.
If you have Serato-compatible primary hardware, but no access to external speakers to connect, this feature allows you to use your computer's speakers while still allowing the use of the hardware's mixing capabilities and headphone output.
Playing Audio via Laptop Speakers
Before enabling this feature in Serato DJ Pro, you must first ensure your computer's built-in soundcard is set as the default output device. In most cases, this will already be set correctly. If this is the case, skip these steps. If not, or you are unsure, please follow the steps below to assign this correctly:
Note: If the operating system's soundcard is changed while the 'Use Laptop Speakers' option is enabled, Serato DJ Pro will not recognise the changes. 'Use Laptop Speakers' will need to be disabled, then re-enabled to apply the soundcard changes.
Mac
- Open 'System Preferences'
- Open 'Sound'
- Under the 'Output' tab, select 'Internal Speakers' or 'MacBook Pro Speakers'
Windows
- Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left corner of the desktop
- Click on the Settings cog
- Click 'System'
- Click 'Sound'
- Set this to your computers Speakers/Built-In Audio device
Enabling 'Use Laptop Speakers'
Once your computer's built-in Soundcard is set to default, open Serato DJ Pro and head to the setup menu. Under the 'Audio Output' section in the Audio tab, enable 'Use Laptop Speakers'
Note: You will still be able to monitor the cue/headphone output via your connected controller/mixer.
Note: This option is only available when compatible hardware is connected.
Playing Audio via External Soundcard
When ‘Use Laptop Speakers’ is enabled, and your computers operating system is set to output via another connected soundcard or audio device, Serato DJ Pro will also output audio via the selected device.Follow the steps from above to change your operating systems output settings; however, in this case, you will need to choose the connected External Soundcard as opposed to your built-in soundcard.
Mac
Windows
Again, once your computer's built-in Soundcard is set to default, open Serato DJ Pro and head to the setup menu. Under the 'Audio Output' section in the Audio tab, enable 'Use Laptop Speakers'.
Hardware Limitations
There is a small amount of hardware that requires some extra audio routing in order to achieve this behavior. More information on the specific hardware can be found here - Hardware Limitations
