Serato DJ Lite version 1.4 and above gives you the option to output audio directly via your laptops speakers or connected audio interface.
If you have a controller, but no access external speakers to connect, this feature allows you to use your computer's speakers while still allowing the use of the controllers mixing capabilities and headphone output.
Playing Audio via Laptop Speakers
Before enabling this feature in Serato DJ Lite, you must first ensure your computer's built-in soundcard is set as the default output device. In most cases, this will already be set correctly. If this is the case, skip these steps. If not, or you are unsure, please follow the steps below to assign this correctly:
Note: If the operating systems soundcard is changed while the 'Use Laptop Speakers' option is enabled, Serato DJ Lite will not recognise the changes. 'Use Laptop Speakers' will need to be disabled then re-enabled to apply the soundcard changes.
Mac
- Open 'System Preferences'
- Open 'Sound'
- Under the 'Output' tab, select 'Internal Speakers' or 'MacBook Pro Speakers'
Windows
- Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left corner of the desktop
- Click on the Settings cog
- Click 'System'
- Click 'Sound'
- Set this to your computers Speakers/Built-In Audio device
Once your computers built-in Soundcard is set to default, open Serato DJ Lite and head to the setup menu. Under the 'Audio Output' section in the Audio tab, enable 'Use Laptop Speakers'
Note: This option is only available when compatible hardware is connected.
Checking ‘Use Laptop Speakers’ will route the audio output from Serato DJ Lite through the operating systems selected soundcard. As this is set to your computers 'Built-in' audio device, the audio will play via your laptop speakers.
Playing Audio via External Soundcard
When ‘Use Laptop Speakers’ is enabled, and your computers operating system is set to output via another connected soundcard or audio device, Serato DJ Lite will also output audio via the selected device.
Follow the steps from above to change your operating systems output settings; however, in this case, you will need to choose the connected External Soundcard as opposed to your built-in soundcard.
Mac
Windows
Again, once your computers built-in Soundcard is set to default, open Serato DJ Lite and head to the setup menu. Under the 'Audio Output' section in the Audio tab, enable 'Use Laptop Speakers'.
