Use Laptop Speakers as Master Output with Serato DJ Lite

Serato DJ Lite version 1.4 and above offers the option to directly output audio through your laptop's speakers or connected audio interface.

This feature enables you to use your computer's speakers when you don't have external speakers to connect, but still want to use your controller's mixing capabilities and headphone output.

Playing Audio via Laptop Speakers

Before enabling this feature in Serato DJ Lite, you must ensure your computer's built-in soundcard is set as the default output device. In most cases, this will already be set correctly. If this is the case, skip these steps. If not, or you are unsure, please follow the steps below to assign this correctly:

Note: If the operating system's soundcard is changed while the 'Use Laptop Speakers' option is enabled, Serato DJ Lite will not recognise the changes. To apply the soundcard changes, 'Use Laptop Speakers' will need to be disabled and then re-enabled.

Mac

  1. Open 'System Preferences'
  2. Open 'Sound'
  3. Under the 'Output' tab, select 'Internal Speakers' or 'MacBook Pro Speakers'

Windows

  1. Click on the Start Menu in the bottom left corner of the desktop
  2. Click on the Settings cog
  3. Click 'System'
  4. Click 'Sound'
  5. Set this to your computer's Speakers/Built-In Audio device

Once your computer's built-in Soundcard is set to default, open Serato DJ Lite and head to the setup menu. Under the 'Audio Output' section in the Audio tab, enable 'Use Laptop Speakers'

Note: This option is only available when compatible hardware is connected.

Checking ‘Use Laptop Speakers’ will route the audio output from Serato DJ Lite through the operating system's selected soundcard. As this is set to your computer's 'Built-in' audio device, the audio will play via your laptop speakers.

Playing Audio via External Soundcard

When ‘Use Laptop Speakers’ is enabled and your computer's operating system is set to output via another connected soundcard or audio device, Serato DJ Lite will also output audio via the selected device.

Follow the steps above to change your operating system's output settings; however, in this case, you will need to choose the connected External Soundcard instead of your built-in soundcard.
