In Serato DJ, there are two main categories of supported hardware:
- Serato DJ Enabled - These devices are plug-and-play with Serato DJ and require no further activation or licenses.
- Serato DJ Upgrade Ready - These devices require an upgrade license to be purchased (either within the software or from the Online Store) and activated on your computer before Serato DJ will go into Online mode.
Some of these devices also support the use of DVS. These are also split into two categories (explained below):
- Serato DVS Enabled
- Serato DVS Upgrade Ready
For a list of features and why you should upgrade to Serato DJ, check out this feature comparison guide.
If you are using Serato DJ with an upgrade ready controller, you will need to purchase an Upgrade license before you can take advantage of all the features Serato DJ has to offer.
The Upgrade license is only needed to be purchased once and is compatible with all Upgrade Ready controllers. If you sell your controller and get another Upgrade Ready device, your license can be used to unlock Serato DJ for that controller too.
If you already own a Serato DJ Enabled controller, you can use this with Serato DJ, but only while connected. If you wish to use another Upgrade Ready controller with Serato DJ, you will still need to purchase an Upgrade license
You already have a Pioneer DDJ-SZ (Serato DJ Enabled) that you take to your gigs, but want to purchase a Numark Mixtrack Pro II (Serato DJ Upgrade Ready) to use at home or while you travel.
Since the Mixtrack Pro II is Upgrade Ready you will need to purchase an Upgrade license before it can be used with Serato DJ.
When Serato DJ detects the Mixtrack Pro II is connected, it will ask for a license to be activated before it can be used.
Note: Using pro hardware and Intro hardware together is not supported.
Which hardware will require a license?
These Serato DJ Upgrade Ready devices will require a DJ license to be purchased before they will activate Serato DJ.
These Club Kit Ready devices will require a Serato DJ before they will activate Serato DJ. They will also require a DVS license to be purchased if they are to be used with Control CDs or Vinyl.
These two licenses come bundled as the Serato DJ Club Kit (available on the store here).
Serato DJ Enabled hardware.
As mentioned, these do not require a Serato DJ license and are plug-and-play. With these devices, when you first download Serato DJ you will see a license panel appear on the right-hand side. Simply tick the box do not show again in the bottom right-hand corner, then click on online, which will hide this panel and remember these settings for when you next open the software.
You can now change the view mode using the drop down menu in the top left-hand corner.
