Performance Pads

DDJ-REV1 Performance Pads.png

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV1 has 8 performance pads that can be used across 8 different modes.

The modes consist of:

HOT CUE mode: Pads 1-8 trigger Serato DJ Pro Cue points, and if no Cue point is present on that slot/ pad, pressing that pad will set a Cue point. Holding the SHIFT button while pressing a pad will delete the Cue point from the respective pad/slot.

AUTO LOOP mode: Pads 1-8 trigger an autoloop of variable sizes. Use the loop selection area in the Serato DJ Pro user interface to influence the 8 available autoloop sizes.

TRACKING mode: Tracking Scratch mode allows you to automatically trigger Cue points while moving the jog wheel/platter, allowing for ‘in-time’ scratches without worrying about perfect jog wheel/platter movements. After entering Tracking Scratch mode, the corresponding deck will be ready for use. Scratch Tracking then uses the opposite deck's BPM to determine the scratches' timing. Pressing Pads 1-6 will select a Crossfader Pattern that is applied to the track on the opposite deck, and pressing the same Pad again will deselect the respective Crossfader Pattern. Manipulate the jog wheel/platter to initiate Tracking Scratch using the last triggered Cue point. If no Cue point has been triggered, the first Cue point will be used. Press Pads 7-8 will half or double the speed of Tracking Scratch mode for Crossfader Pattern pads 3, 4, or 5.

SAMPLER mode: Press pads 1-8 in this mode to trigger samples loaded into the Serato DJ Pro Sampler. Holding SHIFT while pressing a Pad will stop a currently playing Sampler slot or load a new sample to the Sampler slot if it is empty.

BEAT JUMP mode: Hold SHIFT while pressing the HOT CUE pad mode button to enter Beat Jump mode. In this mode, Pads 1 & 4 trigger Beat Jump left & right, while Pads 2 & 3 increase and decrease the Beat Jump value. Pad 5 loads the previous track, and Pads 6 & 7 rewind and fast forward the playing track. Pad 8 censors the playing track.

LOOP ROLL mode: Hold SHIFT while pressing the AUTO LOOP pad mode button. Holding pads 1-8 activates a loop roll of varying sizes. Release the pad to exit the Loop Roll. Use the loop selection area in the Serato DJ Pro user interface to influence the 8 available loop roll sizes.

TRANS mode: Hold SHIFT while pressing the TRACKING pad mode button to enter Transform mode. In this mode, holding Pads 1-8 triggers a predetermined ‘transform’ cut on the respective deck.

SCRATCH BANK mode: Hold SHIFT while pressing the SAMPLER pad mode button to enter Scratch Bank mode. This mode allows you to assign files in your Serato DJ Pro library to a Pad. When Pads 1-8 are triggered, the corresponding file will be loaded to the virtual deck, allowing you to load useful Scratch samples quickly. Click the Scratch Bank button in the top toolbar of Serato DJ Pro to reveal the Scratch Bank Panel. In this panel, you can load and eject files from the Scratch Banks and choose the preferences you wish to load to the deck upon triggering the pad. These preferences include the start point of the file, Key Lock on/off and Repeat on/off. Clicking the button in the top left corner of the panel will change between Advanced and Simple View. Holding SHIFT while pressing a Scratch Bank Pad already loaded to a virtual deck will reload the previously loaded track to that virtual deck.

DJ-FX

The FX panel button is displayed in the top left area of the main Serato DJ Pro screen, click on this to toggle the DJ-FX panel.

With the DJ-FX panel open, you have control of two DJ-FX units, and if your hardware supports it, Channel FX, which can be applied to tracks played through your connected Serato DJ-hardware.

Both DJ-FX & Channel FX can be controlled with your mouse, by using dedicated controls on your hardware (where available), or by MIDI mapping controls to the respective software functions.

MIDI

The MIDI feature in Serato DJ Pro allows you to remap Serato DJ Pro software functions to your primary Serato controller, interface or mixer. You can also assign controls to a secondary MIDI controller to further enhance your performance.

For more information on MIDI mapping with Serato DJ Pro, click here.

To remap your supported Serato device, open the SETUP screen and click the MIDI tab. If your Serato device supports hardware remapping, it will appear in the MIDI DEVICES list.

Select your connected device from the MIDI DEVICES list and check the Allow Serato Hardware Remapping option.

Once checked, the MIDI assign button at the top of the main Serato DJ Pro interface will become available for you to start remapping.

You can save, edit or delete MIDI presets in the MIDI tab of the SETUP screen. Clicking Restore Defaults will erase any custom mappings for all connected devices and revert their functions back to default.

Beat Jump

To activate Beat Jump, open the Setup screen, navigate to the DJ preferences tab and turn on “Show Beat Jump Controls”.

When you close the Setup screen, you will see Beat Jump controls underneath the existing Auto Loop values on each deck. Checking this box will turn on Beat Jump features in the deck area and let you control Beat Jump from your supported Serato DJ Pro hardware.

When the Beat Jump option is enabled, performance pad modes AUTO LOOP or ROLL mode (where applicable) will use the bottom row of 4 pads (pads 5-8) as Beat Jump controls. This is designed to mirror the change in the deck Auto Loop area (from 8 Auto Loop sizes to 4 Auto Loop sizes + Beat Jump controls).
