Updating Stems in Serato DJ Pro & Lite

Serato DJ Pro & Lite 3.0.4 bring an update to Stems, which makes tweaks to the sound of real-time audio separation and provides faster analysis

For users who have already added tracks to the Stems crate in a previous version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, if using 3.0.4 or higher, you'll see a notification appear in the software, asking you to update the Stems on those tracks:

Simply click the Update Stems button in the notification when you're ready to begin the process, remembering that it may take some time if you have a lot of tracks in the Stems crate and is best done while you're preparing your library.

From here, all tracks in your Stems crate will have their Stem library icon turn grey again, upon which they'll slowly turn white as the process is completed per track.

If at any point you need to close Serato DJ Pro or Lite, you can resume updating tracks in the Stems crate that were not completed during the first attempt, once you re-launch the application.

  • Updating tracks in the Stems crate requires significant CPU resources and may cause drop-outs or audio issues if begun during or directly before a performance.
  • Although you may dismiss the notification if the time is not appropriate to begin the process, it will appear every time you launch Serato DJ Pro or Lite, and until all tracks in the Stems crate have been updated.
  • If you revert back to a earlier version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite with Stems, you may find that you need to prepare tracks in the Stems crate again, as updating to a 3.0.4 version and completing the Update Stems process will remove the existing .serato-stem files, and create new ones, which are not backwards compatible.

NOTE: For those who also use Stems in Serato Studio, and have saved projects that contain files you've also updated in Serato DJ Pro or Lite 3.0.4 or higher (using the process above), there are some small extra considerations to take note of:

  • Updating Stems in Serato DJ Pro & Lite 3.0.4 (or higher) will remove existing .serato-stem files, and create new ones, which are not backwards compatible with versions of Serato Studio older than 2.0.2. If you use both software, we highly recommend updating to the latest possible version available, or to use no version lower than the two specified.
