Serato applications require specific macOS permissions to ensure all features work as intended. The application and its features may be limited if the necessary permissions are not enabled as requested. The following article covers what permissions Serato applications may need and the functions these can restrict.
Access to edit these permissions can be found in the System Settings (System Preferences on macOS 12 Monterey and below).
Accessibility permissions
You may be prompted by macOS when first launching a Serato product (may require your Serato hardware to be connected), with the following messaging or a similar one that asks you to 'Allow' accessibility for Serato:
We are aware of an issue that causes the screensaver to kick in even when a Serato application is running and in focus. macOS 10.14 Mojave and above require the user to enable accessibility access for some Serato applications to stop the screensaver from activating while in focus.
You can manually adjust your settings to rectify permission (you will need to 'click the lock to make changes' and enter your log-in details to adjust the settings below):
System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Accessibility → Serato Application→ (enabled)
Microphone Permissions
You may be prompted by macOS when first launching a Serato application (this may require your Serato hardware to be connected), with the following messaging in which you will need to choose 'OK' to allow microphone access:
Without allowing access, you may experience issues such as (but not limited to);
- Lack of DVS signal (Serato DJ Pro only)
- Lack of recording signal (Serato DJ Pro only)
- Assorted audio issues
In case you choose Don't Allow or ignore the prompt, you can also retrospectively adjust your settings to rectify the permission (you will need to 'click the lock to make changes' and enter your log-in details to adjust the settings below):
System Settings (or System Preferences)→ Security & Privacy → Privacy → Microphone → Serato Application → (enabled)
For more information, see this guide - macOS requires microphone (internal input) access
Files & Folders, Full disk access
macOS should prompt you to allow your Serato application access to default Finder locations and/or removable volumes. This message will shown when you launch the software with an external drive connected or if you connect one while the software is running. Click 'OK' to allow:
Without doing so, you may be unable to access files from Finder's default folders and/or external drives. If you chose 'Don't Allow' or ignored the prompt, you can also retrospectively adjust your settings to allow access (you will need to 'click the lock to make changes' and enter your Mac user account's log-in details to adjust the settings below):
System Settings (or System Preferences) → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Files and Folders → Serato DJ Application → (Removable Volumes, Downloads, Desktop Folder)
NOTE: You may also need to allow your Serato application 'Full Disk Access'.
