Recommended Format
The recommended container is MP4 with the H.264 Codec for video and AAC Codec for audio.
The video part of your file should have keyframes every 15-25 frames.
If you use Handbrake to encode your video files, we have created a preset for you. The preset for PC and Mac is in the Re-encoding video files using Handbrake article.
Supported Formats
Serato Video supports the following video file container formats:
- MOV
- MP4
- M4V
- AVI (Windows only)
- MPG
- MPEG
- DV
- QTZ (Mac only*)
- MP3+G (.cdg)
*Unsupported in macOS 10.13 High Sierra and above. Read here for more information.
Support Codecs
Serato Video supports the following video codecs:
- H.264
- DV
- Motion JPEG A
- Motion JPEG B
- MPEG-4
NOTE: Serato Video does not support MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or WMV codecs at this stage.

Despite the list above, not all combinations of containers, codecs, or file extensions are supported, and this support varies depending on your combination of Serato DJ software version and operating system. With Windows operating systems, users should consider that installed third-party codec packs can also affect support.
