Serato DJ for iOS has FX you can use on each Deck. Slot FX and Channel FX are in the EQ/FX panel. Pad FX are on the Performance Pads. With a Serato DJ Suite license or subscription, you also get Stem FX. These are covered in the using Stems article.
Opening the FX panel
On iPhone, tap the EQ/FX button above the Pad Mode button. The panel opens in the EQ view. Tap FX at the bottom of the panel to switch to the FX view.
On iPad, EQ and FX have their own buttons. Tap the FX button to open the FX panel.
Each Deck has its own panel. Serato DJ for iOS remembers which view you were in, and whether the panel was open, for the rest of your session. The panel closes when you rotate your device, open the Library, or connect or disconnect hardware.
NOTE: If your hardware mixes the audio itself, the EQ view is not available. The FX view opens instead.
Slot FX
Each Deck has three FX slots. They are shown as three dots on the left side of the FX view. Tap a dot to move to that slot.
- Tap the effect name to open the list, then choose an effect.
- Tap ON to arm the effect.
- Use the depth knob to set how much of the effect is applied.
In Free Mode, the list shows six effects in one alphabetical list. With Serato DJ Suite, the list is grouped by category, with the category names shown.
The first time you open the app, the slots are loaded like this:
| Slot 1 | Slot 2 | Slot 3 | |
| Unit 1 | HPF | LPF | Flanger |
| Unit 2 | Echo | Reverb | Phaser |
Your choices are saved. The effects you leave in the slots will be there next time.
NOTE: If you go from Serato DJ Suite back to Free Mode, any effect that isn’t in the Free Mode set is replaced with that slot’s default.
Timing FX to the beat
Some effects are timed to the beat of the track. Use the beat subdivision control to change the timing.
Use Tap Tempo to set the timing yourself. Tap Tempo has two modes. Automatic is the default and uses the track’s BPM, so the track needs a BPM value. In Manual mode, you tap Tap Tempo on each beat until a BPM is set.
Channel FX
Channel FX are in the EQ view. For each Deck, the EQ view has Level, Filter, Low and High knobs.
Tap the dropdown on the Filter knob to change what the knob does:
- Filter
- Dub Echo
- Reverb
- Noise
Your choice applies to all Decks. In Free Mode, Filter and Dub Echo are available. Reverb and Noise need Serato DJ Suite and carry a green padlock in Free Mode.
Pad FX
Tap Pad Mode, then choose Pad FX. Four pads show at a time. Use the pad bank selector to switch between pads one to four and pads five to eight.
Pads one to four are loaded with Echo, Flanger, Reverb and Repeater. Pads five to eight add Echo Out, Back Spin, Braker and Roll Out, and need Serato DJ Suite.
Press a pad to apply its effect to the Deck.
NOTE: Pad FX pads are empty until you load a track to the Deck.
What you get in each mode
| Free Mode | Serato DJ Suite | |
| Slot FX | 6 | 59 |
| Channel FX | 2 | 4 |
| Pad FX | 4 | 8 |
| Stem FX | None | 4 |
Turning FX off when you load a track
To turn your FX off every time you load a track, turn on Turn off FX in Advanced Settings > DJ Preferences > On Song Load. To open Advanced Settings, tap the cog icon in the top right corner, then tap Advanced Settings.
Using FX with hardware
If your hardware has FX controls, you can use them instead of the on-screen controls.
NOTE: FX Bank Select and Favorite FX are not available in Serato DJ for iOS. If your hardware has controls for them, they will do nothing.
