Serato Stems separates a track into vocals, melody, bass and drums as it plays, so you can mute or isolate any part in real time. There’s nothing to prepare before you use it.
Opening the Stems pads
Tap the Pad Mode button above the Performance Pads and choose Stems.
The pads are laid out as follows:
| Pads | Name | What it does |
| Top row | Vocal, Melody, Bass, Drums | Mutes that part of the track |
| Bottom row | Vocal Echo, Instrumental Echo, Instrumental Braker, Drums Echo | Mutes that part and applies an FX |
Tap a pad to mute that part of the track, and tap it again to bring it back. While you use Serato Stems, the waveform changes color to show what’s playing.
NOTE: Using Serato Stems straight after loading a track may cause a short delay before the isolation is audible.
Acapella and Instrumental
On iPad, the Acapella and Instrumental buttons let you isolate the vocal or the instruments in one tap.
Free Mode and Serato DJ Suite
The four stem pads are available in Free Mode. The four FX pads need a Serato DJ Suite subscription. Locked pads show a padlock.
Getting Serato Stems ready faster
Turn on Analyze Stems to have Serato DJ for iOS get a track’s stems ready as soon as you load it. To find it, tap the Cog icon, then go to Advanced Settings > DJ Preferences > On Song Load > Analyze Stems.
Streaming tracks
Serato Stems isn’t available for tracks streamed from Apple Music or Spotify. When one of these tracks is loaded, the Stems pads are disabled, and you’ll see a message if you try to use them.
Older devices
All supported iPhones and iPads can use Serato Stems. These devices use a slightly reduced-quality Stems model to keep the app running smoothly:
- iPhone XR
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
- iPad (7th, 8th and 9th generation)
- iPad Air (3rd generation)
- iPad mini (5th generation)
