Some supported DJ hardware can control Serato Stems from its Performance Pads, so you can keep your hands off the screen.
Using the Stems Pad Mode
Select the Stems Pad Mode on your hardware. The on-screen Pad Mode switches to Stems for that Deck to match.
The on-screen Pad Mode follows your hardware, but not the other way around. Changing the Pad Mode on screen doesn’t change the Pad Mode on your hardware.
The four stem pads are available in Free Mode. The four Stem FX pads need a Serato DJ Suite subscription.
Replace Pad Mode with Stems
If your hardware doesn’t have a dedicated Stems Pad Mode, you can replace a Pad Mode you don’t use with Stems.
- Connect your hardware.
- Tap the Cog icon, then go to Advanced Settings > DJ Preferences.
- Turn on Replace Pad Mode with Stems.
- If your hardware offers more than one option, choose the Pad Mode to replace from the drop-down.
The Pad Mode you chose now controls Serato Stems.
NOTE: This setting applies to your primary hardware only. It isn’t available for accessory devices.
NOTE: In Free Mode, you can choose a Pad Mode that needs a Serato DJ Suite subscription, such as Slicer or Loop Roll. Stems then can’t be selected on that Pad Mode.
Dedicated stem controls
Some hardware has dedicated stem controls beyond the Performance Pads. These need a Serato DJ Suite subscription:
- Stem Slip
- Stem FX buttons
- Stem FX+
- Stem FX Part Select
- Stem Level EQ Control
If you use one of these in Free Mode, you’ll see an upgrade message.
Streaming tracks
Serato Stems isn’t available for tracks streamed from Apple Music or Spotify. Stem controls on your hardware are also blocked for these tracks.
