SLAB: Focus mode Dial Scroll is reversed

If you're using a SLAB and notice that the Focus Mode Dial scrolls in the opposite direction of what you expect, it may be because the Operating System setting is impacting the Scroll direction.

For example, turning the encoder left scrolls the knob to the right in the app, and vice versa.

Why This Happens

When Focus Mode is enabled on SLAB, the Dial functions as a mouse scroll wheel. This allows SLAB to use scroll wheel input on any control without needing a specific mapping. The computer operating system can reverse scroll input as a system-wide setting, which affects all mouse wheel scrolling, including SLAB.

This is most commonly observed on macOS through the Natural scroll mode setting, which reverses the scrolling direction to feel more like a touchscreen, such as on iPads or iPhones. Unfortunately, this setting also affects hardware scroll input, such as the Focus Dial on SLAB.

Workaround

To get traditional scroll behaviour with SLAB's Focus Dial, you will need to adjust the scroll behaviour in your computer's settings:

macOS

  1. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions).

  2. Navigate to Trackpad or Mouse.

  3. Uncheck "Natural scrolling"

Windows

  1. Open Settings

  2. Go to Bluetooth & Devices

  3. Go to Mouse

  4. Scroll to the Scrolling direction dropdown

  5. Select "Down motion scrolls down"

This will restore traditional scroll behaviour to the Focus Dial mode on SLAB.

We'll continue to monitor feedback on this matter, but for now, we recommend toggling the system setting as required.
