Roland SP-404MKII Hardware Guide for Serato Studio

Setup

Licensing & software

This device controls Serato Studio when connected, however, you will need to activate a Serato Studio license to use all mapped features.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Serato Studio installed:

The SP-404MKII is supported in Serato Studio 2.3.2 and later.

Drivers & Firmware

The SP-404MKII does not require manufacturer-specific drivers on either Windows or Mac operating systems.

Please ensure your SP-404MKII has a minimum firmware version of 5.00 to connect to Serato Studio.

Connecting the device to your computer with Serato Studio open will prompt you to install the latest firmware if it's not already installed, or you can get it directly from Roland's website:

Connection

  1. Connect a USB cable from the back of the device to a spare USB port on your computer.
  2. Launch Serato Studio, and navigate to Setup > MIDI > MIDI Devices, and enable the SP-404MKII.

If you enter a SP-404MKII bank with the A/F, B/G, C/H, or D/I buttons, press E/J on your SP404MKII to re-enter 'Studio mode'.

SHIFT

1 VOLUME Turn to adjust Master Gain -
2 CTRL 1 Turn to adjust Deck Gain Turn to adjust Deck Attack
3 CTRL 2 Turn to adjust Deck Filter Turn to adjust Deck Release
4 CTRL 3 Turn left or right to adjust Deck Pan Turn to adjust Deck Tempo/Glide (for Instrument Decks)
5 PUSH ENTER

Press in to load asset to new deck (moves forward in library if no asset is in focus)

Turn to scroll library

Turn while holding PITCH/SPEED to adjust project BPM

Turn while holding PATTERN SELECT to select deck

Press in to load asset to current deck (moves forward in library if no asset is in focus)

Turn left to navigate back in library or turn right to navigate forwards in library

6 START/END

Toggle Scene Play/Pause or Song View Play/Pause (based on Playback Focus)

Stop Scene Player or reset Song View back to Start (based on Playback Focus)
7 PITCH/SPEED Hold as modifier while turning PUSH ENTER to adjust bpm -
8 REVERSE Decrease octave* Show scene pads 17-32
9 LOOP Increase octave* Show scene pads 1-16
10 BPM SYNC Toggle BPM Sync for selected deck Toggle Key Sync for selected deck
11 SHIFT Shift modifier, which can be held while using another control for secondary SHIFT function -

Enter Studio mode

In Studio mode, toggle between Deck Pad and Scene Pad modes
